Ringtones are one of the easiest ways to personalize your iPhone. There are also a lot of options for ringtones available on your iPhone. If you want, you can also turn any song that you like into a ringtone. You also have the option to set specific ringtones for certain contacts. This lets you know who the caller is without taking your phone out of your pocket.

Choosing a Ringtone

Follow these easy instructions to change the ringtone of your iPhone or iPad.

Step 1: From home screen, tap Settings.

Step 2: Tap Sounds.

Step 3: Tap Ringtone. You can now select from the many ringtones available on your device. You can also try them out first before using by tapping one by one.

Even if you have many options for ringtones on your iPhone, it is still much better to use your favorite songs as ringtones.

Favorite Songs as Ringtones

If you wish to turn your favorite songs into ringtones, follow these simple instructions.

Step 1: If you are using Windows, download and install iTunes. You can use iTunes to create ringtones from your computer’s music files.

Step 2: Simply add your songs to iTunes library that you want to turn into ringtones. If the songs can’t be added, convert the files into different format. To add songs:

  • You can add by drag and drop the song into iTunes window.
  • Click File > Add File to Library or iTunes > Add to Library then browse for the files.

Step 3: Play the song that you want to set as ringtone. Your ringtone segment can only be up to 40 seconds long. Find a good starting point in your song that is perfect for ringtones.

Step 4: Note the starting point and stopping point of the segment to make it easier.

Step 5: Right click on the song and click “Get Info”. It will open another window with file details.

Step 6: Click the “Options” tab to see the Start and Stop time fields.

Step 7: Enter the starting point and stopping point that you have noted when you played the song into the start and stop fields. Click OK.

Step 8: Right click the song and select Create AAC Version.

Step 9: Right click the new copy of the song and select “Show in Windows Explorer” (for PC) or “Show in Finder” (for Mac). If using windows, enable file extensions.

Step 10: From your explorer window, right click the segment file and click Rename to change the file extension.

Step 11: Change the .m4a extension to .m4r to change the format. This will let your iPhone recognize it as ringtone.

Step 12: Open iTunes and delete the original song and copy but do not delete the song on your PC.

Step 13: Copy the segment with .m4r from windows to iTunes window.

Copy Ringtone From iTunes to iPhone

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your PC.

Step 2: In iTunes, open the Tones library. Simply drag the new ringtone to your iPhone in Devices section. This will transfer the ringtone right away.
